Lauren Hermann
Painter :: Studio 33E ::

Lauren Hermann is a painter. She grew up in Texas, studied painting
at Washington University in St. Louis, and has been painting and
teaching art in Chicago for three years. Lauren’s work revolves
around nostalgic imagery. She uses images of old family quilts
and handmade lace, black and white photographs and illustrations
of stories from days gone by both because these images have
personal meanings to her, and because others can approach them and
form their own nostalgic connections to the images. They conjure
a sense of a lived history. The idea that images can change and
grow and become something new with every new encounter is also an
important part of Hermann’s paintings, drawings, and prints. They
live in today while remembering yesterday.
